Question
What progress has the Welsh Government made in meeting the commitments of the skills summit held in north Wales to ensure Wales has the skills required to take advantage of the small modular reactor development in Wales?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy (Adam Price)
This Government is taking a dual national and regional approach to ensuring Wales has the skills needed to support future Small Modular Reactor development and the wider low carbon energy economy.
The National Skills Summit this October and ongoing National Skills Audit will strengthen the evidence base for skills planning, including in engineering, construction, digital, advanced manufacturing and net zero, supporting the government’s productivity agenda.
Regional engagement remains central to this work, Officials are already working closely with key stakeholders including the North Wales Tertiary Alliance, North Wales Regional Skills Partnership, and developing nuclear skills hub, so that national planning reflects the workforce needs and opportunities associated with Wylfa and its supply chain.
