Question
What assessment has the Welsh Government made of any difficulties of maintaining nutritional standards in school meals this winter, given the potential impact on the resilience of vegetable supplies following drought and wildfire impacts in parts of Europe, and what contingency measures are in place?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Education and the Welsh Language (Anna Brychan)
The Healthy Eating in Schools (Nutritional Standards and Requirements) (Wales) Regulations allow adaptations to menus in response to changes in supply. Responsibility for procurement, school meal menu planning, and compliance rests with local authorities and their catering providers. While seasonal and supply chain pressures are managed locally, Welsh Government remains engaged with local authorities and stakeholders to monitor any emerging supply issues.
