Question
What is the Welsh Government doing to promote library use amongst young people?
Answer
Answered by Trefnydd, Chief Whip and Cabinet Minister for Culture and Sport (Heledd Fychan)
The Welsh Government supports library use among children and young people through targeted funding, national reading initiatives, and investment in the National Digital Library Service, including its eBook and eAudiobook collections, and through 2026 being the National Year of Reading.
Through nationwide reading initiatives, we help ensure reading opportunities are available bilingually in every public library across Wales. Programmes such as the Summer Reading Challenge and the National Year of Reading support children's literacy, while the Reading Well in Wales programme promotes the wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.
Our small grants scheme supports innovative local projects that improve the library experience for children and families.
