Question
What action will the Welsh Government take with Gwynedd Council and the UK Government to prevent public money inflating the local rental market, in areas where a number of properties are used under Home Office accommodation contracts?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning (Siân Gwenllian)
Properties used under Home Office accommodation contracts must comply with the same relevant Welsh planning and housing legislation as any other property in Wales, including HMO licensing requirements where applicable.
The Welsh Government works closely with local authorities to understand local housing market pressures and expects accommodation providers to engage constructively with councils and communities.
While accommodation contracts are a matter for the UK Government, we will continue to engage with both Gwynedd Council and the Home Office to ensure that concerns about housing supply and affordability are appropriately considered.
