Question
Will the Cabinet Minister report on the progress of the free childcare offer in Merthyr Tydfil?
Answer
Answered by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Minister for Social Justice and Equality (Sioned Williams)
I am pleased to report that Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has achieved full rollout of 12.5 hours of funded childcare per week for all two-year-olds, as the first phase of the expansion of funded childcare.
This phase will be rolled out across the remaining areas of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council from September 2026, and is expected to be available to all two-year-olds by the end of March 2027, as part of the wider expansion of funded childcare across Wales.
