Question
What consideration has the Cabinet Minister given to the independent assessment of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board's recent publication stating that staff felt 'anger at the decision to not progress with the design and construction of a new hospital'?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Health and Care (Mabon ap Gwynfor)
I welcome the independent assessment undertaken by NHS Performance and Improvement and recognise the concerns expressed by staff regarding the future of healthcare infrastructure within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
The Welsh Government has supported the Health Board through funding comprehensive condition surveys of both the University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough sites. These surveys provide an evidence-based assessment of the condition and resilience of the estate and are intended to inform future strategic planning decisions.
We are now awaiting the Health Board's updated Estate Plan and supporting Business Case proposals. Once received, Welsh Government officials will work closely with the Health Board to assess the proposals and determine the most appropriate way forward.
