Many women and girls avoid walking or running after dark because they feel unsafe when streets and paths are poorly lit or lights are switched off. Good street lighting can improve visibility and help people feel safer when travelling on foot. We want the Welsh Government to work with local authorities to ensure street lights remain on throughout the hours of darkness.
More details
This petition supports Welsh Athletics’ Own The Night / Ein Nos Ni campaign, which highlights the safety concerns women face when running at night or in the early morning. Welsh Athletics has called for safer, well-lit routes for runners. Keeping street lights on throughout the hours of darkness would help address this issue and make it easier for women to walk, run and exercise safely in their local communities.
