Questions to the Minister for Economy
Actually, our story on productivity and economic activity over the period of devolution is one of improvement. The challenge is that we still have much more to do to make up the gap. It’s a challenge on which, if you look at what happened both before Ken…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
We assess all areas of labour market performance as part of the monitoring arrangements that underpin our plan for employability and skills. We continue to take a range of actions to try and ensure that the right support is provided in a timely manner to…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
I actually think that continuing to raise the issue here and further afield is an important part of it. There's a job for the Government to do, but Members, with your own local influences and networks, and businesses too, as well. Because part of the…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
That's a very helpful and constructive offer from Mr Fox. Look, I'd say the honest truth is, when the business sets out that energy and wider inflation have a cost, that shouldn't surprise us. But, of course, today's figures on food and inflation show a…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
Thank you for the comments and questions. I think it is good news that the taskforce has met, and that draws together Welsh Government, the local authority and, indeed, the local management of the Department for Work and Pensions, who have been constructive…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
With respect, I don't think degree apprenticeships has much relevance to the challenges faced by Tillery Valley Foods or, indeed, Avara. We're thinking about a sector that is directly affected by a range of factors. It's affected by trading conditions, and…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
I'm positive about the future of the Tech Valleys programme. It's a subject that I've had a number of direct conversations with the constituency Member for Blaenau Gwent about since I took up this post, about what we are doing, and making sure that people…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
Thanks for the question. Our economic mission, published last year, sets out clearly the values and priorities that shape our decisions to support the economy. Just one positive example is the work we have undertaken to promote and secure investment in the…
10 May 2023Plenary
Topical Questions
That is exactly what we have been doing, and there have been direct conversations that we’ve had as the Government with the council and with Tillery Valley Foods, and again, the points that the Member makes around the direct answers that we need on the…
10 May 2023Plenary
Topical Questions
Thank you for the follow-up question. As I said in response to Alun Davies, when he raised concerns with us last year, we also had direct engagement with the council, who'd been engaged around the business, to want to understand what could happen. That was…
10 May 2023Plenary
Topical Questions
Yes. I thank the Member for his follow-up question. I should acknowledge that this is, of course, an area that crosses between two Government departments, because the food division is, of course, within the responsibility of my colleague, Lesley Griffiths, so…
10 May 2023Plenary
Topical Questions
I thank the Member for the question. Officials from both the Welsh Government and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council have been engaged constructively with Tillery Valley Foods for some time. Our key objectives are to secure a future for the workers, their…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
Well, of course, the Member will have heard about the public health cost from congestion. It's an issue in my constituency; it's an issue in other parts of Wales as well. I think it's odd to say on the one hand you're in favour of a clean air Act, but then to…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
Thank you for the question, which I note is similar to the ones asked by Paul Davies. In line with 'Llwybr Newydd: The Wales Transport Strategy' and our transport delivery plan, we will consider supporting fair and equitable road-user charging systems that…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
I don't think calling for devolution of the Crown Estate takes away from the economic opportunities or puts them in any way at risk at all. Of course, the Crown Estate is devolved in Scotland. I think we can learn from what Scotland has done, and I'm…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
It's exactly what—. What the Member is calling for is exactly what myself and the Minister for Climate Change have called for, not just publicly on repeated occasions, but also in our direct engagement with the Crown Estate. Because all those opportunities…
26 April 2023Plenary
Questions to the Minister for Economy
We believe the benefits from the Crown Estate would be greater for Wales if the Crown Estate were devolved. Whilst we seek devolution, we continue to work with the Crown Estate to ensure that we maximise the current opportunities for the Welsh economy.
26 April 2023Plenary
Questions to the Minister for Economy
Well, we've invested £36 million of additional money to try to maintain the progress that we can make at the maximum level through this time, and that's a direct result of budget challenges. We have also taken some action to try to help to support people…
26 April 2023Plenary
Questions to the Minister for Economy
We've actually been looking at working with a number of people who haven't completed those outcomes, as well as the providers themselves, to understand the different reasons for that. Now, people's financial means are part of that, but it's also then a…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
Yes. Look, as ever, we work alongside local authorities and other partners when it comes to the future for town centres. But it's also a range of policy areas across the Government—so, taking a 'town centre first' approach to the way that we develop. So, that…
26 April 2023Plenary
Questions to the Minister for Economy
Okay. So, I can't give you a direct response to all six of those areas. I'd be more than happy to write to the Member to set that out in more detail—the detail I think he'll want to see. We continue with our investing in towns programme—our Transforming Towns…
26 April 2023Plenary
Questions to the Minister for Economy
Well, it isn't possible to deliver an economic assessment of the plans because there isn't a fully formed proposal to assess, and, as well as the impact on the economy, you need to consider the environmental, the societal and, indeed, the public health…
26 April 2023Plenary
Questions to the Minister for Economy
Yes, I do. And, in fact, we were talking much about the future of the economy in Wales when I was in Brussels yesterday, which was, unfortunately, why I wasn't at the event with Airbus. But I have good links with the company and, indeed, with the recognised…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
Well, of course, the trade deal with New Zealand, as indeed the other trade deals, contains a range of areas. And we have always taken a balanced view on the fact that there is potential for more trade and economic activity. There is potential for people to…

Questions to the Minister for Economy
We are making strong progress in delivering our young person's guarantee, with over 12,000 young people starting on employability and skills programmes alone since the launch of the young person's guarantee in November 2021.
