Halting and reversing the loss of nature by 2030 - evidence session with academics
[Inaudible.]—for now, Chair, thanks. Thank you very much. Really, really detailed, good answers.

Halting and reversing the loss of nature by 2030 - evidence session with academics
Thank you. Now, within the biodiversity deep-dive, you mentioned the marine side of things was under-represented, missing elements to address 30x30. How do you believe now we should be looking back? Do we need a more detailed deep-dive, and an action plan to…

Halting and reversing the loss of nature by 2030 - evidence session with academics
Thank you. And you talk about fast-tracking measures within catchments to improve water quality and indeed the coastal environment. What elements would you fast-track? And tied to that question, we are so lucky to have the School of Ocean Sciences in Bangor…

Halting and reversing the loss of nature by 2030 - evidence session with academics
Thank you, and I know I've had similar conversations with Lord Deben, who was the chair of the Climate Change Committee, and his concerns about what we're doing, or not doing, as regards the marine environment. So, Dr Richard Unsworth, in your written…

Statement by the Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs: Cleaning up our rivers, lakes and seas
Yes, thank you. Diolch. So, we all know that, sadly, and statistics prove, that many of our rivers in Wales are really needing much attention and that they are well below the standard that we expect. According to the last water framework directive report…

Statement by the Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs: Cleaning up our rivers, lakes and seas
I thank the Minister for the statement, and we all know how statistics prove that many of our rivers in Wales are polluted and are well below an acceptable standard. According to the latest water framework directive—

Annual scrutiny of operation of interim environmental protection measures - evidence session with the Interim Environmental Protection Assessor for Wales
You plan to leave the role in February; how will you ensure that your learning will be passed on to any successor, and indeed the Welsh Government?
18 July 2024Climate Change, Environment, and Infrastructure Committee
Annual scrutiny of operation of interim environmental protection measures - evidence session with the Interim Environmental Protection Assessor for Wales
That eases me somewhat.

Annual scrutiny of operation of interim environmental protection measures - evidence session with the Interim Environmental Protection Assessor for Wales
And we, as a scrutiny committee, will have access to those.

Annual scrutiny of operation of interim environmental protection measures - evidence session with the Interim Environmental Protection Assessor for Wales
But you have no powers on any work that you do.

Annual scrutiny of operation of interim environmental protection measures - evidence session with the Interim Environmental Protection Assessor for Wales
I'll just ask this one question, then. Yesterday, most of the questions were on water quality. We're all, as Members, very concerned about our water quality in Wales. There's a lot of work going on monitoring that. Is there a risk that you could be…

Annual scrutiny of operation of interim environmental protection measures - evidence session with the Interim Environmental Protection Assessor for Wales
Thank you. You'll have to excuse me going back to this reporting business. There's a reticence, I feel, on behalf of all three of you, about, 'Well, we're doing this work, but we won't be able to do the report.' I see little point in that kind of work that…

Annual scrutiny of operation of interim environmental protection measures - evidence session with the Interim Environmental Protection Assessor for Wales
Yes, a couple of points here. So, I am concerned when you say, 'We won't be making the reports public.' It's taxpayers' money; the public have a right to know, certainly us as a scrutiny committee have a right, so I would hope that those reports are not kept…

Thank you.

Annual scrutiny of operation of interim environmental protection measures - evidence session with the Interim Environmental Protection Assessor for Wales
Well, no. You would know whether you've been monitored or not as yet, or have you not?
18 July 2024Climate Change, Environment, and Infrastructure Committee
Annual scrutiny of operation of interim environmental protection measures - evidence session with the Interim Environmental Protection Assessor for Wales
Sorry to interrupt. Does that mean no monitoring? The question was: to what extent has the Government been monitoring? Are you saying they haven't, as yet?
18 July 2024Climate Change, Environment, and Infrastructure Committee
Annual scrutiny of operation of interim environmental protection measures - evidence session with the Interim Environmental Protection Assessor for Wales
Yes. So, I mean you have had extra resources to help impact monitoring, going forward. How effective do you believe this is, but also to what extent has the Welsh Government been monitoring the work you're doing, if you like?

Annual scrutiny of operation of interim environmental protection measures - evidence session with the Interim Environmental Protection Assessor for Wales
Thank you. What progress have you made since last year, when it was apparent much progress was needed? How do you believe the interim measures are working, following three years of operation? What impact has your work had, and what do you think could still be…

Questions to the Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
In terms of Rachel Reeves, it's fair to say at least the outgoing Chancellor didn't leave a note saying there's absolutely no money left. Finally, in two weeks, farmers across Wales are going to feel the full force of the Water Resources (Control of…

Questions to the Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
Would you agree that it's better if that money is kept in Wales, and will you work towards that aim?

Questions to the Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
Thank you, Cabinet Secretary. I suppose one could argue that, over the last 26 years of this place, and Welsh devolution, it’s fair to say that there have been 12 years under a Labour Government in the UK, and, of course, the last 14 years under a…

Questions to the Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
Diolch, Llywydd. I'm going to take you back to water pollution. Can I thank everybody who has raised the current issues we have here in Wales in terms of water pollution? Like many others in this Chamber, I hope, I've welcomed the King's Speech and the future…
