How is the Welsh Government ensuring that Natural Resources Wales has the capacity and resources it needs to tackle water pollution?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Rural Resilience and Sustainability (Llyr Gruffydd)
Tackling water pollution and improving water quality is a priority for this Government. My officials continue to work closely with NRW to ensure it has the support and resources to deliver these priorities.
Natural Resources Wales plays a vital role in delivering that ambition and we are providing it with an additional £3.43m (£2.74m Revenue and £0.69m Capital) in this financial year to strengthen its capacity and capability to tackle water pollution and improve water quality across Wales.
We are also investing £11.5 million through the Nature and Climate Emergencies portfolio to support water quality improvements and habitat restoration across Wales. This investment supports delivery of our Water Reform Programme and our Programme for Government commitment to improve water quality through a whole-system, catchment-based approach, with the ambition that every water body in Wales is on a clear trajectory towards good status.
