What consideration has the Welsh Government given to ensuring that pay and conditions for light rail drivers employed on the South Wales Metro appropriately reflect the skills, responsibilities and safety-critical nature of their role, including comparisons with equivalent heavy rail positions?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy Minister for Transport (Mark Hooper)
The majority of the Core Valleys Line (CVL) is a heavy rail network, even though a section of the Cardiff Bay line will transition to light rail. The full network will continue to be operated by Transport for Wales with a common fleet and common traincrew. All drivers (and conductors) will remain on their current heavy rail terms and conditions and there are no plans to change this.
